Dental Implants

Dental implants are a surgical component that provide a strong foundation for fixed and permanent crowns, they are placed directly into the jawbone and function as tooth roots. The current bone status and systemic diseases of the patient are crucial for implants.

With the latest technology, most patients are now suitable for implant treatment. Implants are used to restore the gap where 2 or more teeth are absent without damaging the adjacent teeth, when dealing with multiple or complete loss of teeth, fixed prosthesis can be used instead of removable ones thanks to dental implants. Prosthetics can generally be applied within 3 or 4 months after the implant procedure has been completed. This period is necessary for the implant to fuse with the bone. However, there are some implant types which can reduce this period.

Missing teeth can significantly impact your confidence and quality of life. Whether you lost a tooth due to injury, decay, or genetics, it can affect your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Fortunately, modern dentistry offers a range of solutions for missing teeth, including dental implants.

Dentists surgically insert artificial tooth roots into the jawbone to hold a substitute tooth or bridge in place. They are a popular and effective alternative to traditional dentures or bridges, as they provide a permanent and natural-looking solution for missing teeth. In this article, we will explore the benefits, procedure, and aftercare of dental implants to help you make an informed decision.

Types of Dental Implants:

There are two main types of dental implants: endosteal and subperiosteal. Endosteal implants are the most common type, and they are inserted into the jawbone. Subperiosteal implants, on the other hand, are placed on top of the jawbone, but under the gum line.

Benefits of Dental Implants:

  • Improved Appearance: Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth, providing a more natural appearance.
  • Improved Speech: Missing teeth can affect your speech, but dental implants can restore your ability to speak with confidence.
  • Improved Comfort: Unlike dentures, dental implants do not slip or move around, providing a more comfortable solution for missing teeth.
  • Improved Function: Dental implants allow you to eat your favorite foods without restrictions, improving your overall quality of life.
  • Improved Oral Health: Dental implants do not require reducing neighboring teeth, as bridges do, which helps to maintain your overall oral health.
  • Long-lasting: Dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

To be a good candidate for dental implants, you should have:

  • Good oral health
  • Adequate bone density and volume in the jawbone
  • No underlying medical conditions that can affect healing
  • A commitment to maintaining good oral hygiene

Procedure for Dental Implants:

  1. Consultation: Your dentist will examine your teeth and jawbone to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. They may also take X-rays or a CT scan to evaluate your jawbone.
  2. Implant Placement: The dental implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. After the surgery, the implant will fuse with the jawbone, which can take several months.
  3. Abutment Placement: Once the implant has fused with the jawbone, an abutment is attached to the implant to connect it to the replacement tooth or bridge.
  4. Crown or Bridge Placement: Finally, a crown or bridge is placed on top of the abutment, providing a natural-looking and functional replacement for missing teeth.

Aftercare and Recovery:

  • Pain and Swelling: Some pain and swelling are normal after the procedure, but it can be managed with painkillers and ice packs.
  • Oral Hygiene: Proper oral hygiene is crucial for the success and longevity of dental implants. It is essential to take care of your teeth by brushing and flossing on a regular basis and to have a dental professional examine your teeth and provide a thorough cleaning on a consistent basis.
  • Diet: For the first few days after the procedure, stick to soft foods and avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that can dislodge the implant.

An implant is a replacement for a missing tooth. Implants are made of titanium which the surgeon operates into the jawbone where the missing tooth is.

There are many who are worried about implants, but it is a safe and secure treatment that lasts for many years, often a lifetime.

Here we will explain how the implant insertion process works:

  1. An X-ray is taken of the patient, after which he/she is examined. This is to see if there is enough bone tissue to insert an implant, if there isnt then we can perform a procedure to operate in artificial bone tissue or if sinus lift if necessary.
  2. Before the operation, the patient receives local anesthesia and will not have any pain during the operation. The surgeon will insert the implants and put stiches after the operation.
  3. The healing period is normally 3 months, depending on whether the patient has good enough bone tissue, whether artificial bone tissue has been added, etc. In such cases, this waiting period may be longer.
  4. The abutment (distance) is mounted after the waiting period. It is an extension of the implant, to which the tooth is to be attached.

Implants are suitable for anyone who wants to replace lost tooth / teeth. If you use a denture that is not fixed, or you have lost many teeth, then the choice of implants is an excellent treatment option to replace teeth.

The bone volume in the jaw must be examined to see if there is enough. If not, artificial bone tissue can / will be operated in so that the implants have a stronger foundation.

It can suit a patient in their 20s as well as one in their 80s. Age is no obstacle.

We have a professor who performs implant surgeries. She has worked with all types of operations for years, and will assess your state of health, bone substance, etc. so that you understand the whole plan, before the operation starts.

She is very skilled in her work.

In such treatments, it is important that the work is performed properly by professionals.

This is a big safety factor for you as a patient, so you are sure that it is performed properly.

We also have our own laboratory, which means that there is direct communication between the person performing the treatment and those who will make the teeth. It is important that everyone cooperates well so that the end result is as desired.

A different procedure is followed after each treatment. Sometimes it is not a problem to eat immediately after treatment, but in some cases, the patient is asked to eat and consume soft foods a few hours later. Your doctor will inform you about these procedures.

After the implant operation, facial swelling may occur on the implanted side. It is not a cause for concern. It goes away within a few days after the implant. Cold compress should be applied for the first 24 hours. It should be applied warm for the next 24 hours and medications should be taken regularly.

When properly maintained, a carefully placed dental implant has a life span of between 20 and 30 years. The life of the dental implant is long-lasting with the correct application of the implant and then the patient’s not interrupting the implant care.

After the implant, at least 3 months should be waited for the bone and implant surface to provide a healthy and strong connection. When more advanced surgical procedures such as sinus lifting and using grafts (bone dust) are performed, this period may take up to 4 or 5 months. However, nowadays, when appropriate conditions are provided, depending on the bone quantity and quality of the patient, loading can be made immediately after the procedure.
